Under administrative direction, provides overall leadership in the operations, processes, and systems related to all clinic operations provided by Animal Care Services (ACS). Follows and adheres to all medical direction provided by the Chief Veterinarian. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises efficient clinic operations while following the medical direction from the Chief Veterinarian.
- Establishes work standards to ensure the humane care and treatment of animals at the veterinary clinics and evaluates clinic staff performance.
- Selects, motivates, and evaluates staff; provides or coordinates training and work with employees to correct deficiencies; and implements and administers disciplinary and termination procedures.
- Develops and implements budgets, cost containment procedures, and program improvement measures for area of responsibility.
- Analyzes community needs and develops plans, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to deliver Veterinary Services effectively and efficiently to the City residents.
- Coordinates and oversees off-site clinic functions including communicating with ACS-supported partner clinics.
- Manages and reviews off-site and on-site clinics for compliance with contracts, policies, and ordinances.
- Oversees staff responsible for the maintenance of records relating to medical procedures and surgeries performed by the Animal Care Services Department.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the administration to ensure adequate flow of information in all directions so that both staff and management employees are kept informed.
- Responds to and resolves sensitive inquiries and complaints from both internal and external sources.
- Participates in professional development training to further develop professional skills and to stay current with research and practice.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of increasing responsible experience in clinical veterinary services, including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility
Applicant Information- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
